Boldon James launches SAFEmail® 3.8 SR1 – delivering leading edge ‘defence ready’ secure messaging to NATO and other defence forces

Latest release provides enhanced support for Microsoft Office 2016, SharePoint 2013 and Exchange Server 2016, whilst extending coverage for RFC7444 internet messaging labelling standards

Mons, 7 September 2016 – QinetiQ’s data security company Boldon James, a leading provider of data classification and military messaging solutions, today announced the launch of SAFEmail® version 3.8 SR1 at the NATO Information Assurance & Cyber Security Symposium (NIAS) 2016 show in Mons, Belgium.

Boldon James SAFEmail® is proven in demanding operational environments and is currently used by a variety of international military forces, intelligence and Homeland Security organisations including Critical National Infrastructure (CNI), where the ability to send and receive messages quickly and securely is key to operational success.

With the latest SAFEmail® release, Military forces, Defence and Homeland Security organisations have full support for the latest Microsoft Windows and Messaging environments including Office 2016, Exchange Server 2016 and Windows OS 10.

SAFEmail® v3.8 SR1 also provides extended support for IETF standards, including the military communication standard RFC6477. In addition SAFEmail® has been extended to support the RFC7444 standard in the form of a header field, SIO-Label, which convey the sensitivity of the message.  This header field may carry a textual representation (a display marking) and/or a structural representation (a security label) to denote the sensitivity of the message. Support for this feature provides much improved interoperability for both inter- and intra-organisational and national messaging solutions, ensuring adherence to the latest SMTP email messaging protocols.

In summary, SAFEmail® v3.8 SR1 offers the following additional functionality:

  • Enhanced support for RFC7444 labelling and messaging standards to extend message interoperability
  • Support for a third Document Management System (EDRMS), namely Microsoft SharePoint (2013) has been added to the existing EMC Documentum and Linkworks solutions
  • Extended Security Label module support to include labelling of Outlook Task Items, to improve marking and enforcement of information flows via Tasks, in addition to email and calendar objects
  • The SAFEmail® administration tool has been enhanced to manage configuration and registry settings for improved SAFEmail® S/MIME Security module deployment

Commenting on SAFEmail® v3.8 SR1, Richard Bailey, CTO at Boldon James said: “SAFEmail® continues to lead the way in secure messaging, providing Homeland Security and military organisations with the confidence they can monitor and control the flow of information, in all environments, at all levels of sensitivity, by extending the latest standard Microsoft COTS Messaging products.  This latest version of SAFEmail® continues to provide comprehensive support for the latest Microsoft platforms and military messaging standards.”
