SAFEmail.net for DMS - Web Based Military Messaging built on Microsoft OWA.
Boldon James SAFEmail.net for DMS meets the specific challenges identified by the US DoD for its evolving Defense messaging Systems including:
- To create a simplified ACP120-123 Military Messaging Client
- To create a Web Based Military Messaging Client
- Reduced TCO - costs of installation, deployment, configuration and maintenance.
The SAFEmail.net for DMS Solution
Boldon James SAFEmail.net for DMS is a web based Military Messaging client built on top of the Microsoft Exchange 2003 Outlook Web Access (OWA) solution. The product is a true web client with zero desktop footprint. It includes a simplified Create New Message User Interface is shown in Figure 1. The most striking aspect of SAFEmail.net for DMS is the dramatically simplified user interface compared to the more traditional ACP120-123 client. This simplified web form interface can be used by all users that are configured to operate as CMS (Lockheed Martin) Domain Fortezza users. A key aspect for Domain Fortezza users is that ACP message security is handled by the server, which coupled with the zero footprint of SAFEmail.net for DMS can make operation for roving users much easier. Access to mailboxes via the Web client is controlled using Microsoft IIS with SSL being used over the link.

Figure 1: SAFEmail.net for DMS, Message Creation
SAFEmail.net for DMS is not intended to replace the fully functional DMS Outlook client but is a complementary product. In each organisation there will be a percentage of 'Power Users' who will require the full DMS client interface with it's capability to explicitly control the detailed message attributes. Additionally there will be a percentage of users who will be satisfied with the simple interface of SAFEmail.net for DMS.
How it Works
SAFEmail.net for DMS is based upon Microsoft Exchange 2003 Outlook Web Access (OWA). Boldon James have amended the OWA form and added a subset of military attributes, including Precedence, Message Type, Security Label, Fortezza Role, Content Description and Release Date/Time and SIC, with available Role and Label information being taken from the user's entry in the Active Directory. The user can also define the level of security to be applied to the message. On sending the message, the client component passes the message to the Exchange Server where a series of processes take the information set by the user to produce a fully conformant ACP 120/123 message to be signed and encrypted as required and routed through the network.

The flow is illustrated in Figure 2 above.
