P7 Connector for Microsoft Outlook - Providing the capability to send and receive military messages to / from an X.400 environment via P7 protocol

The P7 Transport Provider for Microsoft Outlook is a Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) enabled X.400 P7 message transport service provider. It enables the sending and receiving of messages from Microsoft Outlook over an X.400 messaging service via a P7 Message Store.

The Boldon James P7 Transport Provider allows Outlook to be directly connected to a legacy X.400 P7 Message Store. In addition the provider can be used in “free-standing” mode to support the connection of mail-enabled MAPI applications to a X.400 P7 message store.

When using the P7 Provider with Outlook and SAFEmail.mil it is possible to create, send, and receive P772 Stanag 4406/ACP123 conformant messages within the framework of a compliant Military Message Handling System MMHS. In addition however the P7 Provider may be used to connect Outlook to a traditional X.400 message store and thus assume the role of an X.400 User Agent (UA) in such a system.

The P7 Provider is supplied with a MAPI Programming Guide that helps users “mail-enable” applications such that data is transferred over the messaging system. The rationale for this capability is that it makes sense to use an existing proven, robust, secure messaging system as an application to application connector, rather than re-develop or implement a new interface.
