Martin Sugden Chief Executive Officer

Martin Sugden is the Chief Executive Officer taking the role in March 2003.

He joined the Group in July 1998 as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and a board director, and was promoted to General Manager of the Boldon James businesses in May 2002. In early 2005 he led the Management Buyout (MBO) of Boldon James backed by ISIS Equity Partners.

Prior to joining, Martin was the CFO of two LSE-listed companies focusing on strategic development and improving the performance of subsidiaries. The first of these companies he floated. He began his career with Ernst & Young qualifying as a Chartered Accountant and has held significant business development roles in a number of blue chip UK and US companies. Martin has an honours degree in Economics and Geography from Bradford University.

Richard Bailey Development Director

Richard joined Boldon James in 1987 as a software developer specialising in ICL Connectivity product development on UNIX platforms. To date he has over 25 years experience in software engineering across a variety of business sectors.

He has held a number of positions from team leader through to senior management within the Development division. In 1999 Richard took control of the division with a responsibility for over 30 consultants. He has extensive experience in OSI and messaging systems, X.400/X.500 development and works closely with our Systems Integrators.

Richard graduated from UMIST in 1979 with a First Class Honours degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and also gained an MSc in Factory Automation from UMIST in 1986. On graduation he joined Lucas Electrical working on projects in the automotive industry and then held other software engineering roles with RETIS Real-time Software and BAe Systems/UMIST developing distributed software-based control systems for the manufacturing industry.

Stuart Battersby Business Development Director

Stuart joined Boldon James in 1993 as Sales Director and has held various sales and product management roles during that period, in particular focusing on developing relationships with major partners such as Microsoft and Lockheed Martin. Having presented papers at international messaging, directory and Defence industry forums, Stuart is well respected and connected within these industries.

After Graduating from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) in 1973 with an Honours degree in Computation, Stuart had a long-term career with Fujitsu in technical, marketing, sales and general management roles gaining extensive experience of product marketing, channel sales and the Government sector.

Katherine Kay Finance Director

Katherine joined Boldon James in 1998 as Financial Controller and has built a strong finance team concentrating on the development of internal financial controls and procedures to improve the quality and accuracy of information reported. She was promoted to Group Financial Controller in 1999 as the company expanded to include subsidiaries in the US, South Africa, Norway, Russia, France and Jordan. Katherine has gained extensive systems experience managing and controlling the implementation of a new finance system which she subsequently rolled out to all subsidiaries.

Katherine graduated from Birmingham University in 1990 with a BSc in Geography. She then qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Ernst and Young in 1994. Since leaving she has worked solely within the IT sector managing busy finance departments.

Kath Millington Technical Services Director

Kath joined Boldon James in November 1990 as a C++ developer. In 1995 she became the Technical Support Manager for Network Security and Telco products. In 2000 she established common support procedures and practices across the group and today has responsibility for the delivery of Boldon James’ Technical Services including infrastructure, consultancy and technical support.

Kath graduated from Staffordshire University in 1970 with a BSc (Hons) in Computing Science and began her career as a COBOL developer with British Rail.

Kieron Sambrook-Smith Sales and Marketing Director

Kieron Sambrook-Smith was appointed Sales and Marketing Director in August 2006. He has a business consulting and technology solutions background in addition to 12 years Sales and Business Management experience with global Systems Integrators including Amdahl DMR, Digital and Compaq and more recently, medium-sized software businesses of Versata and Intelliden.

Kieron’s roles over the last 6 years have been focused on establishing and building the EMEA territories for US and UK based software vendors. His career is complemented by an MBA.
