Boldon James wins European National Military Message Handling System (MMHS) contract

Full MMHS suite of software components plus services to be delivered through Hewlett Packard to a European Ministry of Defence

Maidenhead, Berkshire, U.K. – 11th January 2008 – Boldon James, a leading provider of secure formal messaging solutions today announces a multi-million euro order to deliver an MMHS to a European Ministry of Defence.

This order is the culmination of a programme of work which started in 2006 and ended with Boldon James winning a competitive tender involving a number of international defence contractors.  The technical solution we will now provide as the prime sub-contractor includes components from our partners Isode, Clearswift, CommPower, Systematic and Entrust.

The drivers behind the need for this MMHS implementation are:

  • Improved military communications
  • The need to meet NATO commitments both nationally and internationally.
  • Desire to deploy a Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) solution which can be upgraded to take advantage of the growing use of technology in modern Defence forces.

The combination of Hewlett Packard Consulting & Integration services’ in country delivery expertise and Boldon James’  tried and tested COTS solutions presented a strong case, with the NATO directives available in standard products and Boldon James’s proven track record in meeting specific national requirements thought to be critical in meeting the accelerated implementation timetable

The specific Customer requirements included provision of a secure email system scalable to 10,000 users, operating fixed and mobile nodes in a multi-domain environment and capable of interfacing with the existing command and control (C2) and document management systems. The solution includes compliance with STANAG 4406 Edition 2, ACP145, ACP133 Ed.C, an upgrade path to Microsoft 2007 products, end-to-end encryption including role and organisational based encryption, plus content checking between security domains to an EAL4 level of accreditation.

“This order evidences Boldon James’ continually growing reputation as the worlds leading Secure Messaging Solutions ISV (Independent Software Provider).  Our proven track record in understanding and meeting the specific customer requirements made the decision to choose Boldon James an easy one.” said Kieron Sambrook-Smith, Sales and Marketing Director, Boldon James.
