Boldon James Signs $23M contract with U.S. Department of Defence (DoD) for Defence Messaging System (DMS) Support.
SAFEmail.mil to be core component for next generation collaborative messaging solution.
Maidenhead, Berkshire, U.K. – January 19th, 2007 – Boldon James, a leading provider of Secure Formal Messaging solutions, today announced that a contract was recently signed with Lockheed Martin, to provide support for the Microsoft components of the US Defense Messaging System (DMS).
Boldon James, the messaging specialist for Defence, Homeland Security and Aviation, has been awarded a yearly contract to support the Defence Messaging System (DMS) over the next ten years. The contract in partnership with Lockheed Martin (prime contractors for DMS) will provide secure, reliable, end-to-end global messaging for the US Department of Defence (DoD) for up to ten years.
In a relationship that began in 1996 Boldon James has developed and supported many aspects of the DMS in partnership with Lockheed Martin and Microsoft. This new contract signing demonstrates the depth of understanding that Boldon James has for the DoD’s operations and the value they place on our solutions.
“We are pleased to have been selected to continue to help support this mission-critical communications, command and control program for the US DoD” said Stuart Battersby, Business Development Director. “With our thorough understanding of the Microsoft DMS architecture, we have the technical expertise and long-term commitment to support the DMS and its evolution into the next generation of secure messaging systems.”
The DMS supports more than six million military messages each month, sending secure e-mails from command stations, military bases and units deployed in the field.
“DMS enables the DoD’s military services and agencies to send and receive critical information on the battlefield and in the office” said Poul Jorgensen, DMS Program Manager at Lockheed Martin. “We have worked with Boldon James for over 10 years and their commitment to the program has been outstanding. They provide innovative products and an active advice and support service that is second to none.”
In a further development Lockheed Martin and Boldon James announced the Collaborative Messaging Solution (CMS), the next generation of the DMS. CMS is one of a number of Domain Fortezza solutions available. However, as it’s based upon Microsoft Exchange Server and Microsoft Outlook Web Access, it costs significantly less to maintain, install and use than alternative proprietary systems.
One further benefit of CMS is its future capability and ease of integration with Unified Messaging, Chat/Instant Messaging, Digital Rights Management and other advanced security features. “Because of its cost savings and future capability, CMS is really beginning to take off as a number of commands are close to changing onto CMS” concludes Stuart Battersby.
