Boldon James Showed Tactical Messaging Solutions at CWID 2006 as part of the joint MOD/ATLAS Consortium’s DII Demonstrations
Boldon James, the specialist military messaging company, participated at the 2006 UK Coalition Warrior Interoperability Demonstration (CWID) as part of the joint MOD/ATLAS Consortium’s Defence Information Infrastructure demonstrations. Boldon James showed SIM, its new chat product, and its STANAG 4406 Annex E Military Message Handling System for IP-based communications in low-bandwidth environments.
Military Message Handling Systems (MMHS) lack the pace and immediacy required in modern military operations. To fill this gap, commanders and operations officers are using commercial instant messaging or chat tools which lack security features such as user authentication, labelling, non-repudiation, and conversation archiving.
Boldon James demonstrated its new SIM Instant Messaging / Chat product designed specifically for the Defence sector. Based on Microsoft Live Communication Server, it provides the required security features and by using Microsoft Active Directory, it also validates user identity and security clearance. In addition, SIM has lockable chat rooms, guest invitations and a zero footprint web client interface. It uses an SQL database to allow multi-level archiving and is easy, fast and cost-effective to deploy.
Commenting on SIM’s release, Martin Sugden, CEO at Boldon James said: 'Working closely with our customers, we’ve designed SIM to be secure, easy to use and simple to deploy. It’s fully integrated with Microsoft Windows Security and built upon Microsoft’s COTS platform for improved performance, reliability and low cost of ownership. It forms a next-generation addition to our SAFEmail.mil high grade messaging suite.'
Boldon James also demonstrated its STANAG 4406 Annex E MMHS. Based on Microsoft Exchange, it supports IP-based communications in low-bandwidth environments as defined in STANAG 4406 Annex E and ACP142 standards. This enables mobile and tactical messaging in Radio Silence for land, sea and air operations.
In addition, Boldon James also supplied its multifunction gateway to support the EDS Defence Gateway demonstration that linked to the Bowman tactical network run by General Dynamics.
