Boldon James Connects US, Australian and the UK Coalition Forces

Following on from their success at JWID 2003, Boldon James has extended the scope and depth of testing of its ACP145 Gateway at this year’s JWID event. Major successes this year were 3-way interoperability with the UK, Australian and US participants plus the extension of the US ACP145 Gateway capability to support complex US DMS security labels.

JWID (which will be known as CWID from 2005 onwards) is the premier event for investigating national and coalition interoperability problems and solutions. The global war on terrorism has highlighted the importance of JWID’s work and the need to advance the exchange of information across national and international boundaries.

The successful trials encompassed the exchange of signed, encrypted and labeled military messages between the three coalition partners. All three nations were using Boldon James ACP145 Gateway, however, the US system used a DMS ACP120 version of the gateway, whilst the UK and Australia used an ACP123/STANAG 4406 variant of the product

Boldon James ACP145 gateway included many advances for JWID 2004. The simple security label mapping implementation of JWID 03 has been replaced with a powerful bi-lateral mapping capability which is  simple to set up and configure. This feature supports the translation of classifications, precedence levels, message types and categories between the various domains.

The enhanced ACP145 Gateway also includes improvements to the certificate handling procedures and verification procedures, allowing ACP145 signatures using either DSA or RSA algorithms.

Martin Sugden, Chief Executive Officer at Boldon James, commented “We are delighted with the results of the testing of our ACP145 gateway at JWID 2004. We were very impressed with the Microsoft Exchange platform performance which demonstrated impressive  throughput and reliability. The management and statistical data available from Exchange really suits the end user requirements. The results of the testing at JWID 2004 are testament to the high quality of the people and processes we have put in place here at Boldon James. ”
